Puttuin Prosper, TX
Also called pittu
Puttu is a breakfast favourite from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka: ground rice layered with grated coconut, steamed in a tall cylinder and pushed out as a soft, crumbly log. At MIK Cloud Kitchen in Prosper, TX we serve it the traditional way, with a curry or something sweet on the side.

How puttu is made
Rice flour is moistened just enough to clump, then packed into a puttu kutti, a cylindrical steamer, in layers with grated coconut. Steam rises through the layers and cooks them into a light cake that breaks apart easily.
How we serve it
Puttu comes with your choice of side: kadala curry (the famous “puttu and kadala” pairing), stew, coconut milk or coconut jaggery.
For something different, try Puttu Kottu: puttu stir-fried on the griddle with vegetables and spices.
Puttu: common questions
What is puttu and kadala?
Kerala’s best-known breakfast: steamed puttu with kadala curry, a spiced black chickpea curry. Order puttu and choose kadala curry as your side.

Puttu itself is mild. It turns savoury with kadala curry or stew, and sweet with coconut milk or coconut jaggery.
